Just 50 days to go...

As of today, there are just a half-century of days until Sherborne's Cricket Week begins.  Thirty matches, a brilliant prize draw, a non-uniform day, 'Beat the Batter', souvenir brochures and prints...  It's going to be fab!

Next up - three great books by the renowned cricket historian Peter Oborne.  All three - 'Wounded Tiger: A History of Cricket in Pakistan', 'Basil D'Oliveira: Cricket and Conspiracy' and 'White on Green' - are signed by the author who is, himself, an Old Shirburnian (d, 74)!

A Sydney Sixers match day shirt and a pair of batting gloves, both signed by Hampshire and England star James Vince!  And there will be a new prize announced each week until Cricket Week...

And the next super prize is...

A limited edition framed print of The Upper by the acclaimed artist Jocelyn Goldsworthy, generously donated by the Old Shirburnian Society - a wonderful addition to any wall!

As the countdown to Sherborne’s RSF Cricket Week continues, I’m delighted to announce that our next great prize – very kindly donated by Jimmy Adams, 1^st XI assistant coach at Hampshire CCC and an Old Shirburnian – is 4 tickets to a Hampshire home match (in either 2024 or 2025), with the opportunity to meet the players, and to be shown around the pavilion and changing rooms.

Today marks 100 days until Cricket Week begins at Sherborne!

 

To start the countdown in style, I can now reveal the first prize in the draw: Zac Crawley's signed England match shirt (Test player number 695) from the 2023 Red for Ruth Test match against Australia.

Sherborne School goes Red for Ruth 2024

Following the success of last year’s inaugural Ruth Strauss Foundation Cricket Week, Sherborne School will again be turning Red for Ruth this summer, in the final week of June.

Starting on Saturday 22^nd June and running through until Thursday 27^th June, an expanded event will see 25 matches against 13 different opponents, with players from Sherborne Prep School all the way up to the 1^st XI, and the staff team, taking part.

There is an ambitious fundraising target and money will be raised through the sale of souvenir brochures and original prints of The Upper.

Additionally, all the pupils will have the chance to contribute through a ‘Mufti Day’ and there is also going to be a prize draw (running both on the ground during the week and online throughout June), including some fabulous items such as tickets and hospitality at Hampshire CCC, kit, and one of Zac Crawley’s England shirts.

Finally, the four 1^st XI matches – against Blundell’s, Sherborne Pilgrims, St. Andrew’s Grahamstown, and MCC – will all be sponsored by local businesses who will dedicate funds to the pot for every run scored, boundary hit, or wicket taken.

Master i/c Cricket, Hugh Tatham, comments, “I am delighted that we are again supporting the Ruth Strauss Foundation, which does such incredible work to help bereaved families and to advance research into non-smoking cancers.

The money we raise will make a huge difference to the Foundation, especially in training healthcare professionals to support families facing the awful challenge of the death of a parent.

Our teams are excited about ending the season with this super event, so I hope we can have a wonderful week of thrilling cricket in glorious sunshine.

Our target is to raise £5000 for this magnificent cause; do come and join us as we go Red for Ruth and end the 2024 Cricket season in style."
