Sherborne School

Turn Cricket Red

Getting closer...

Across all our fundraising sources, Sherborne's total now stands at just over £4,000...  great effort everyone, and still a little time left!

An excellent end...

Yesterday saw the 30th - and final - match of our Cricket Week: a tremendous game between MCC and the School, which our guests won by just 18 runs.
We also held the prize draw and congratulations to all our winners!  This page will remain open until the end of July, when we will tally up our various sources of fundraising, so please do give if you can...

Day 5 and the sun is really shining!

A great day today for our Prep Schools' Tournament, which was won by Twyford School - many congratulations to them!  Tomorrow is the final day of Cricket Week, with the 1st XI playing the 100th match of the 2024 season against MCC.  The match is sponsored by World Class Willow, who will have a stall on the ground, whilst souvenir brochures, prints and draw tickets are still available...  The draw will be made during the tea interval tomorrow - do join us if you can!

Day 4

Today we are delighted to welcome St Andrew's College from Grahamstown in South Africa to The Upper for a 50-over match against the 1st XI.  Then, Bow House (our staff side) takes on Perrott Hill Plodders in an evening T20.  The weather forecast is fabulous, so do join us if you can!  Meanwhile, it's a non-uniform day for all the boys at school as a further fundraising effort...

A glorious day!

Day 2 of Sherborne's RSF Cricket Week saw a fantastic match between the 1st XI and Sherborne Pilgrims, in which the School triumphed in bright sunshine by just 19 runs in a tremendous contest.

Do join us for day 3 tomorrow if you can...

One day, five matches...

And Sherborne's RSF Week is up and running.  A tremendous performance from Blundell's to win the 1st XI match, but super matches in glorious weather throughout.  Tomorrow sees the 1st XI take on the Sherborne Pilgrims, from 11.30am in a declaration match.  Do join us if you can!

The wait is almost over!

Tomorrow - Saturday 22nd June - is day 1 of Sherborne's RSF Cricket Week, starting with matches 1-4 against Blundell's School.  The weather forecast is promising and the players are raring to get underway, so do join us from 11am if you can...

Three days to go...

until Sherborne's RSF Cricket Week 2024 gets underway, and the sun is shining!  One of the events that lots of the players are looking forward to is the 'Beat the Batter' competition on Wednesday.  A £10 donation gets you two overs at one of our 1st XI batters - if you get them out, you get tickets into the draw, so do come along and have a go!

One week to go...

and excitement is building to fever pitch ahead of Sherborne's RSF Cricket Week!  We're really looking forward to welcoming lots of people to one or more of the thirty matches, and we hope that loads of you will be able to join us at some point during the week.  Just keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine!

Just 20 days...

until our RSF Cricket Week gets underway with matches against Blundell's.  Don't forget - every £10 donation also buys five tickets to the prize draw!

Another super prize...

Today marks 100 days until Cricket Week begins at Sherborne!

To start the countdown in style, I can now reveal the first prize in the draw: Zac Crawley's signed England match shirt (Test player number 695) from the 2023 Red for Ruth Test match against Australia.

Sherborne School goes Red for Ruth 2024

Following the success of last year’s inaugural Ruth Strauss Foundation Cricket Week, Sherborne School will again be turning Red for Ruth this summer, in the final week of June.

Starting on Saturday 22nd June and running through until Thursday 27th June, an expanded event will see 25 matches against 13 different opponents, with players from Sherborne Prep School all the way up to the 1st XI, and the staff team, taking part.

There is an ambitious fundraising target and money will be raised through the sale of souvenir brochures and original prints of The Upper.

Additionally, all the pupils will have the chance to contribute through a ‘Mufti Day’ and there is also going to be a prize draw (running both on the ground during the week and online throughout June), including some fabulous items such as tickets and hospitality at Hampshire CCC, kit, and one of Zac Crawley’s England shirts.

Finally, the four 1st XI matches – against Blundell’s, Sherborne Pilgrims, St. Andrew’s Grahamstown, and MCC – will all be sponsored by local businesses who will dedicate funds to the pot for every run scored, boundary hit, or wicket taken.

Master i/c Cricket, Hugh Tatham, comments, “I am delighted that we are again supporting the Ruth Strauss Foundation, which does such incredible work to help bereaved families and to advance research into non-smoking cancers.

The money we raise will make a huge difference to the Foundation, especially in training healthcare professionals to support families facing the awful challenge of the death of a parent.

Our teams are excited about ending the season with this super event, so I hope we can have a wonderful week of thrilling cricket in glorious sunshine.

Our target is to raise £5000 for this magnificent cause; do come and join us as we go Red for Ruth and end the 2024 Cricket season in style."
